Coffee wasn’t always a hot drink made with beans from Central America:  Historians think the first coffee drinkers were East African tribes who ate  unroasted coffee berries.

Coffee grew wild on the Arabian Peninsula,  where it was first developed into a hot drink in the 11th century. People began  cultivating coffee which had a mystical reputation like that of chocolate about 400 years later. For hundreds of years, most of the world of coffee came  from the Middle East. Eventually, however, travelers smuggled coffee plants  throughout the world.

Europeans fell in love with coffee in Venice, where it joined  perfumes, fabrics and other Middle Eastern imports. Trade ships brought coffee  plants to colonies in the New World, where they and  love of the drink took  root. Modern coffee regions now include Africa, the Middle East, Latin America  and the Pacific Rim.

Likewise, coffee is enjoyed the world over, with  different nations and cultures putting their own personalities into the drink.  Whether you prefer a robust dark roast, sophisticated smoothness, classic flavor  or even special flavor-burst creamers, you can indulge your taste with Pilot’s gourmet flavor.
